Who this is for

Common presentations we work with

If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place. Every client's story is different, and we'll tailor the approach to yours.

  • The same argument on repeat, in slightly different words
  • Communication that breaks down or goes silent
  • Rebuilding trust after an affair or betrayal
  • Drifting apart, more like flatmates than partners
  • Clashes over parenting, money, or in-laws
  • Intimacy and closeness that have faded
  • A major change: a new baby, illness, or redundancy
  • Deciding whether to stay together, or to separate well

Mind Healing Counselling offers couples and marriage counselling online across Ireland and in person in Limerick. Sessions are €100, with evening and weekend appointments, and you’ll usually be seen by an accredited counsellor within a week.

Coming to counselling together isn’t a sign your relationship has failed. More often it’s the opposite. It’s two people deciding the relationship is worth the effort of understanding.

What couples counselling can help with

Couples come to us at every stage. Some are in crisis after an affair or a broken trust. Others just feel like they’ve drifted, more like flatmates than partners, and can’t quite say when it happened. Plenty arrive stuck in the same argument on a loop, having it in slightly different words every week.

Whatever brought you, the work underneath is the same. Understanding what’s really going on beneath the friction, and finding a kinder, clearer way to be with each other. You can read more about the issues that bring couples to counselling and how to handle conflict without it turning into a fight.

How the work happens

Couples counselling gives you something rare. A calm space with a third person whose only job is to help you both feel heard. Not to take sides, and not to decide who’s right.

Your counsellor works integratively, drawing on approaches like emotionally focused therapy, systemic and relational work, and practical communication skills, shaped around what your relationship actually needs. Some of it is learning to talk and listen differently. Some of it is understanding the older patterns each of you carries, often from long before you met.

We won’t promise to save every relationship, and we won’t steer you towards any particular ending. What we can offer is honesty, warmth, and the tools to make things better, whatever “better” turns out to mean for the two of you.

Who you’d see

Working with couples asks for specific training, and five of our counsellors offer it: Adam Grace, Charmaine Chiwara, Jonathan Monahan, Richie Reeves and Susan O’Shea. Each is registered with the APCP, BACP or IACP, and each has trained in working with couples and relationships.

What a first session is like

The first session is mostly about your story. What’s brought you here, how each of you sees it, and what you’d both like to be different. There’s no expectation to perform, and no need to have it worked out before you arrive. If you’d like a fuller picture first, here’s what to expect from couples counselling.

An honest word on safety

Couples counselling works when both people feel safe to be honest. It isn’t the right setting where there’s abuse or control in a relationship, and no one should ever feel pressured into it. If that’s your situation, please reach out to Women’s Aid on 1800 341 900 or Men’s Aid on 01 554 3811, who can help confidentially. In an emergency, call 999 or 112.
