Who this is for
Common presentations we work with
If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place. Every client's story is different, and we'll tailor the approach to yours.
- Persistent low mood that won't shift
- Loss of interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
- Exhaustion that sleep doesn't fix
- Feeling numb, flat, or disconnected
- Harsh self-criticism and feelings of worthlessness
- Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
- Withdrawing from relationships and activities
- Hopelessness about the future
Depression is not weakness
Depression is a clinical condition, not a character flaw. It affects how you think, feel, sleep, eat, and relate to people, all at once. When you’re inside it, the world contracts. Things that once felt easy become impossible. The future feels foreclosed. Self-criticism becomes constant background noise.
If any of this is familiar, please know: depression responds very well to therapy. Most clients see measurable improvement within 9-12 sessions. The weight does lift. You won’t feel like this forever.
How we work with depression
Depression is complicated because its symptoms, low energy, low motivation, negative thinking, are also what makes it hard to engage with treatment. You need to do the things that help, but doing anything feels impossible. This is one of the reasons generic advice (“just exercise more, just think positively”) doesn’t work.
Our therapists take a different approach. We start small. We work with where you actually are, not where you “should” be.
Early sessions focus on stabilisation and behavioural activation, gently reintroducing small actions that feed back into mood. Not giant lifestyle changes. Tiny, manageable things that generate evidence that change is possible.
Middle sessions go deeper. We look at the thought patterns that keep depression entrenched, the self-critical voice, the tendency to read situations in worst-case terms, the beliefs formed long ago about who you are and what you deserve. CBT techniques work well here, as does psychodynamic exploration of where these patterns came from.
Closing sessions consolidate. We build a relapse-prevention plan, because depression can return, and having a toolkit ready makes a real difference. You leave therapy not just feeling better, but more resilient for the future.
When depression meets other things
Depression rarely arrives alone. It often comes with anxiety, grief, trauma, unresolved relationship difficulties, or periods of life transition. Our integrative approach means your therapist can address whatever is actually happening for you, not just the diagnosis you arrived with.
A note on medication
Some clients are already on antidepressant medication when they come to us; some start during therapy; some never take medication and find therapy alone is enough. We work alongside whatever treatment you’re receiving from your GP or psychiatrist, and we never pressure clients in either direction. The decision is yours and your medical professional’s.
Take the first step
The hardest part of seeking help for depression is usually the first email. Once it’s sent, things get easier. First sessions are available at half price, a low-commitment way to start.
Our Integrative Approach
Modalities your therapist may draw on
Our counsellors are qualified in multiple evidence-based approaches and adapt their method to you, not the other way around.
