Who this is for

Common presentations we work with

If any of these feel familiar, you're in the right place. Every client's story is different, and we'll tailor the approach to yours.

  • You live somewhere rural or far from a local counsellor
  • Your work or caring responsibilities make in-person sessions hard
  • You feel safer and more open in your own space
  • You've tried in-person therapy and it didn't suit you
  • You want access to a specialist, not whoever is locally available
  • You travel often or spend time outside Ireland

Online therapy, backed by evidence

Research consistently shows online counselling is as effective as in-person therapy for the majority of presenting issues, including anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. For many of our clients it’s more effective, because the barriers to attending (travel, childcare, privacy, anxiety about waiting rooms) simply disappear.

Ninety-five percent of Mind Healing Counselling clients choose online sessions. That number didn’t come from a campaign, it came from people discovering that therapy works better when it fits into their real life.

How sessions work

Sessions run for 50 minutes over a secure video connection. You’ll receive a link before each session that works in any modern browser. All that’s needed on your end is a quiet space, a reasonable internet connection, and a device with a camera.

Your counsellor will guide the first session through a light structure: understanding what brought you in, how you’re feeling, what you’d like to work on. From there, we build an individualised plan around your values and goals.

Why online works especially well for counselling

There’s something specific about therapy that makes the online format a natural fit. You’re in your own environment, your sofa, your favourite chair, a quiet room at work. You don’t have to compose yourself in a waiting area or walk back out into the street after a difficult conversation. You can have a cup of tea beside you. You can cry without feeling watched.

For trauma work in particular, the control this gives you matters. You choose the space. You choose when to turn the camera off. You can end a session and take five minutes to breathe before re-entering your day, rather than navigating traffic.

Who shouldn’t use online counselling

Honesty matters here. Online therapy is not the right fit for everyone. If you’re in acute crisis, experiencing active suicidal ideation, or in a living situation where private conversation isn’t possible, we’d recommend in-person care, either through our Limerick practice or through emergency services. You can find crisis support contacts on our FAQ page.
